Depending on circumstances, you may certify remedial courses for students with VA education benefits; however, a student cannot just ask to be placed in a remedial course. Your institution must first test the individual to determine that he or she has a legitimate need for remediation. This documentation should be placed in the student's folder.

NOTE: Remedial or deficiency subjects pursued by distance learning CANNOT be certified to VA for benefits. VA requires remedial or deficiency subjects must be pursued by resident training in order to be certified to VA once they have been approved by the SAA.
